What’s Wrong with our Fresh Graduates

Malaysian unemployment rate has gone up to 3.6% from 3% the previous quarter. This is despite job vacancies going higher. However I don’t think many fresh graduates know this.

Graduates are still asking for the world when they graduate just because they have a degree. A degree does not mean anything today. It just tells the world that the person has an education.

I dare honestly say that a majority (near 95%) do not even have 50% of the knowledge and skills to do their work. I remembered once during an interview asking a simple accounting double entry question to a graduate that any SPM level student would be able to answer. She said “Wow, I have not done double entry in a long time, let me think.” 2 minutes later after struggling a few times the answer was still wrong. This came from a local fresh graduate with a B.A in Accounting with a 3.2 GPA.

Let’s not even talk about the attitude of most of these individuals. Many of them are bad to say the least. Turning up late for interviews, promising but not meaning what they say, badly dressed and coming to an interview as if we owe them a job.

Fresh graduates, I am not your father or your mother or your grandparents. As an individual that you will be working for, I am the BOSS. I am not here to hear your stories in University and in School and to listen to how good you are in a project. That happen in school and university. Show me some real result then we will talk pay, no result, no performance what money.

My advice is stop being choosy, fussy and do stop crying to the world that it is unfair. It is unfair and get used to it. It has never been fair and never will. Focus now on getting knowledge and experience. Serve your time, get your experience and reap the rewards later.

Most important find out what you should know but do not. However some of you unfortunately, do not even care or worse still know what I am talking about.

Have to agree on this. They want the world, but are not willing to put their heart into what they want. Pointless.

Jeremy is correct. fresh grads, don't be too fussy and too picky...our journey are still far away in front there.it's not qualification per se that employer looks in you, most important is your attitude and behavior towards the job, must be all in one (like Milo 3 in 1 ;)

I totally agree with this. I am a Human Capital Consultant and I interview many fresh graduates, some don’t even know why they took up their course, some don’t even know what course they are taking which makes it worst for them when they graduate and come out to the real working world, they don’t know what they want to do as a career! Plain stupidity I would say and not planning ahead of time. Kids these days are too pampered by their parents and lecturers. This is not going to be good for our country's future! A message to All Fresh Grads out there “Buck up, stop being blur and dumb. You are done in your comfort zone, time for you to make wise choices in life and grow fast! Do not be left behind time and later on regret and suffer."

Some people just don't get the idea that 'Theory is not the same as Practical'. Just because they scored high in uni, they think they can do the same in working world. Helloooo... wake up freshies. Welcome to the real world. You think university years was hard.. think again!
Don't be selfish; always thinking of what the world should do for you. Change your mindset and attitude, I'm sure you will do better in whatever you plan for..

Everything is wrong with our FRESH Graduates. They just do not have it and it is really sad to see this happening. When an opportunity is given, they take it for granted. When will they learn to realize that some buses only stop once?

I disagree, I have come out of university with a 1st, done 3 months unpaid work exerience, been nominated for awards but still I can't find a job. I don't know what I want to do anymore because its just too much competition to find a job which doesn't involve mopping floors or serving beer.

We need to keep on improving ourselves to become better because the world would not stop and wait for you. Once you stop improving yourself, you will left behind...

We were having lunch-time conversation last week. Very much to my dismay, I found out that our "neighboring; more developing country" [you know what i mean] is sponsoring our elite SPM graduates to study at their Universities.

Upon completing their degree, "the government" will then offer jobs for these group of Malaysia elites.

Are my points communicated across effectively? Do you know what is the indication of these?

Meaning, our elite students are leaving this country for better. Then, who is going to shape our country's future? People like you? Myself? Whoa Whoa Whoa..

I can imagine how the country will be . . .
